Henderson, NV—The SLCC Baseball team (6-6, 0-2 SWAC) opened Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) play at the SWAC Tournament with a pair of losses on Thursday. The Bruins fell to rival College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (5-9, 1-0)
6-3 in the day's first contest and lost an
8-4 decision to Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) (4-10, 1-1 SWAC) in game two of the doubleheader.
Game 1 Recap: The Bruins earned an early lead in what shaped up to be a pitcher's duel for much of the contest. CSI tallied two runs in in the eighth inning to take a 3-2 lead, and SLCC rallied to tie the contest with a run in the bottom of the ninth but surrendered three runs to the Golden Eagles in the 11
th inning of the 2014 SWAC opener for both teams.
SLCC had six base hits and one error committed and CSI finished with eight base hits and three errors in the field.
Game 2 Recap: Salt Lake built an early 3-0 lead, but the Spartans rallied with four in the fourth inning and a run apiece in both the fifth and sixth innings to earn a 6-3 lead. Two more runs for CNCC in the eighth sealed the victory and gave SLCC its second loss of the day.
The Bruins turned in eight base hits and no errors and CNCC finished with 14 base hits and two errors committed.

Anthony Dixon (West Valley City, UT) struck out four Golden Eagle batters with four hits and one run allowed in seven innings of work. Sophomore pitcher

Game 2 Stats vs. CNCC: Freshman pitcher
Jared White (Riverton, UT) took the loss in game two with five strikeouts and five runs allowed in six innings on the mound.

Nick Urban (Las Vegas, NV) was 2-for-5 with a home run and freshman infielder
Taylor Snyder (Elk Ridge, UT) was 2-for-4 with a double in the losing effort.
