Twin Falls, ID—The SLCC Men's Basketball team (23-5, 10-3 SWAC) defeated Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival No. 2-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (26-3, 12-2 SWAC) on Saturday at CSI Gymnasium. SLCC avoided a 3-0 regular season series sweep by the Golden Eagles with the road victory.

Recap: SLCC led 42-24 at the halftime break and led by as many as 22 points in the game. The Golden Eagles trimmed the Salt Lake lead to five points late in the contest but the Bruins held on with free throw shooting in the waning minutes of the game. CSI outscored SLCC 44-34 in the second half.

The Bruins out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 46-30 including a 14-6 advantage in offensive rebounding. SLCC shot 43.1 percent from the field on 25-of-58. CSI finished at 40.0 percent shooting on 24 made baskets from 60 attempts.

SLCC was 8-for-22 from three point range with CSI finishing at 5-of-18 from beyond the arc. The Bruins had four players finish in double figures scoring.

Stats vs. CSI: Bruin sophomore guard Gary Payton II (Las Vegas, NV) scored 16 points and completed a double-double with 11 rebounds. The future Oregon State Beaver was 3-for-4 from three point range and had five assists in the winning effort.

Freshman forward Neal Monson (Sandy, UT) turned in 17 points and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds. The University of Utah transfer had five offensive rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Sophomore guard Jaden Jackson (Salt Lake City, UT) added 17 points and was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. The West Jordan High School graduate finished with four rebounds and three assists. Freshman guard De'Sean Parsons (Sacramento, CA) scored 11 points with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Next up for Head Coach Todd Phillips and the Bruins is a home game against in-state opponent USU-Eastern (18-8, 5-7 SWAC) on Thursday, Feb. 20 at Bruin Arena with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m. SLCC leads the regular season series with USU-Eastern 2-0.
