PHOENIX – Playing their third game in as many days No. 10 SLCC was too much for D2 No. 1 Mesa Community College in the 64-49 win.
Mesa, who was the 2013-14 NJCAA Division II National Champions, hung around with SLCC throughout the first half with accurate shooting as the two teams went into the break with the Bruins up 33-23.
Playing much more intense defense in the second half, SLCC held the Thunderbirds to 25 percent shooting while extending their 10 point half time lead to 15 to pull out the 64-49 win.
Raushan Gultekin (Lund, Sweden), who has been consistent all season so far, put together another well round performance with 15 points on 7-10 shooting while garnering four assists, four rebounds, and four steals.
Shelby Richards (Riverton, UT) continued to shoot well pouring in 13 points while Elsa Paulsson (Lulea, Sweden) came off the bench and added 12 points on 2-5 shooting from three with five rebounds. Leading SLCC in rebounding was
Tanesha Daniels (Brigham City, UT) with six to go along with her 11 points. Once again the Bruins won the rebounding battle 32-28.
Head Coach
Betsy Specketer and the women's basketball team now improve to 3-1 with the win. After coming home for a few days the Bruins will now prepare for the CSI Tournament held in Twin Falls, Idaho.
