SLCC loses for first time at home this season, Golden Eagles move two games ahead of Bruins in SWAC title race

SALT LAKE CITY—The No. 13-ranked SLCC Men's Basketball team (19-4, 6-2 SWAC) fell to Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival No. 4-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (22-2, 8-1 SWAC) by a final score of 79-76 on Saturday at Bruin Arena. The loss ends a five-game win streak for SLCC and extends CSI's streak to eight victories.

The Bruins out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 31-29 but lost the turnover battle 13-12. CSI shot 54.7 percent from the field and made six of its 14 three point attempts. SLCC finished at 49.2 percent from the field and went 6-for-15 from three point range in the losing effort. The Bruins made 12 of 13 free throw attempts and CSI finished at 15 for 26 from the line.

Stats vs. CSI: SLCC freshman guard De'Sean Parsons (Sacramento, CA) led all scorers with 23 points and finished with five rebounds. Sophomore guard Gary Payton II (Las Vegas, NV) turned in 14 points with nine rebounds, six assists and four steals and fellow sophomore guard Jaden Jackson (Salt Lake City, UT) also scored 14 points with three rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore forward Kurtis Toolson (Gilbert, AZ) added nine points with seven assists and three rebounds and freshman forward Neal Monson (Sandy, UT) scored eight points with seven rebounds.

Next up for Head Coach Todd Phillips and the Bruins is a road trip to Price, UT for a matchup with in-state foe USU-Eastern on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m.
