Bruin Baseball and Softball teams get set for the postseason

SLCC Softball opens Region 18 Tournament against Colorado Northwestern

Salt Lake City, UT—The No. 6-ranked SLCC Softball team (44-9, 38-6 SWAC) will head to Twin Falls, ID this week for the Region 18 Softball Championships May 8-11. The Bruins enter Region 18 play as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 7 seed Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) (5-48, 4-44 SWAC) in the first round on Wednesday, May 8 with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m.

The Bruins swept the regular season series with CNCC 8-0, outscoring the Spartans by a combined 80-7 margin in the four doubleheaders. SLCC outscored its opposition 374-126 in regular season play.

As a team, the Bruins are batting .351 heading into the postseason. Sophomore outfielder Malia Campos (Murray, UT) is second in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) with a .450 batting average, leads the conference in on-base percentage at .539 and has a team-high 72 hits on the season.

Sophomore designated player Whitney Holt (Tooele, UT) leads the Bruins with 11 home runs on the season and is second on the squad with 56 runs batted in (RBI). Sophomore infielder Maddy Woodard (Murray, UT) leads the Bruins with 65 RBI with 12 doubles and five home runs. Sophomore infielder Lyndsey Healey (Spanish Fork, UT) leads the team with 17 doubles and has nine home runs on the year.

The Bruin pitching staff leads the SWAC with a combined 1.83 earned run average (ERA). Sophomore pitcher MaCauley Flint (Roy, UT) leads the SWAC in five statistical categories; ERA (1.27), shutouts (7), strikeouts (216), wins (21) and opposing batting average (.176). Flint finished the regular season with a 21-3 win-loss record and 15 complete game efforts.

SLCC Baseball to face rival Western Nevada in quarterfinals of Region 18 Tournament

Salt Lake City, UT—The SLCC Baseball team (35-17, 23-13 SWAC) will travel to Henderson, NV this week for the Region 18 Baseball Championships May 8-11. The Bruins enter Region 18 play as the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 2 seed Western Nevada College (WNC) (38-18, 23-13 SWAC) in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, May 9 at 3:30 p.m. The Bruins were 4-5 against WNC during the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season.

The Bruins lead the SWAC in team batting average at .310 and scored more runs than any other team in the conference at 373. SLCC has won nine of its last ten contests heading into postseason play.

Freshman infielder Kade Teter (Pocatello, ID) leads the SWAC with a .424 batting average. Sophomore catcher Bo Fisher (American Fork, UT) is second on the team with a .359 average and is tied for the team lead in runs batted in (RBI) with 35. Fisher leads the SWAC in doubles with 18 and is tied for the team lead with 52 hits this year.
Sophomore infielder/pitcher JC Snyder (Salem, UT) also has 35 RBI on the season. Sophomore infielder Sam Goold (St. George, UT) and freshman outfielder Zach Watts (West Jordan, UT) each have five home runs this year.

The Bruin pitching staff has a combined earned run average (ERA) of 3.81, led by sophomore pitcher Skylar Janisse (Maidstone, ONT) with a 1.91 ERA. Janisse has a win-loss record of 4-0 with 39 strikeouts. Freshman pitcher Brady Corless (Spanish Fork, UT) leads the team in strikeouts with 55 and finished the regular season with a 6-3 record.
