SLCC Softball preps for SWAC rivalry matchups with Southern Idaho

Bruins get set for showdown between Top 10 teams

Salt Lake City, UT—The No. 4-ranked SLCC Softball team (36-5, 30-2 SWAC) will host Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival No. 6-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (35-7, 29-3 SWAC) for a pair of doubleheaders this Friday and Saturday, Apr. 12-13 at Bruin Field. First pitch for game one on Friday is slated for 1:00 p.m. and Saturday's opening contest gets underway at Noon.

SLCC has not yet faced CSI in head-to-head competition this season. The scheduled pair of doubleheaders between the Bruins and the Golden Eagles on Feb. 22-23 was cancelled due to unplayable conditions at both campuses.

SLCC leads CSI by one game in the race for the SWAC regular season championship, with the outright conference winner earning hosting rights for the Region 18 Championships on May 8-11.

The Bruins have won 16 of the last 17 games and the team is averaging 7.6 runs scored per contest. SLCC is allowing an average of 1.9 runs per game to its opposition.

The SLCC pitching staff owns the lowest earned run average (ERA) in the SWAC at 1.57. Sophomore pitcher MaCauley Flint (Roy, UT) has the lowest ERA on the team at 0.71 and has a win-loss record of 18-2. Flint has struck out 182 opposing batters in 25 total appearances including 16 starts.

Sophomore outfielder Malia Campos (Murray, UT) leads the Bruins with a .467 batting average and also has a team best 56 hits on the season. Campos has scored 51 runs and has an on-base percentage of .552. Sophomore infielder Maddy Woodard (Murray, UT) has a team-best five home runs and leads the team with 56 runs batted in (RBI) this season.

Salt Lake City, UT—The SLCC Baseball team (26-14, 14-10 SWAC) will head to Henderson, NV this week to face Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival College of Southern Nevada (CSN) (28-9, 16-4 SWAC) in a pair of doubleheaders this Friday and Saturday, Apr. 12-13.
 
The Bruins are in second place in the SWAC behind CSN and are 1-4 against the Coyotes this season. SLCC is averaging 6.7 runs scored per game and is allowing an average of 4.9 runs to the opposition.
 
The SLCC pitching staff has a team earned run average (ERA) of 4.28, led by sophomore right hander Skylar Janisse (Maidstone, ONT) with a 2.08 ERA. Janisse has a 4-1 win-loss record in 10 total appearances.
 
SLCC leads the SWAC in team batting average at .319, led by sophomore catcher/infielder Bo Fisher (American Fork, UT) with a .376 average. Fisher leads the team in doubles at 14 and has 41 total hits on the year. Sophomore infielder Sam Goold (St. George, UT) has a team best five home runs and 27 runs batted in so far this season.
