SLCC Baseball preps for middle series of 12 straight road contests
Bruins make a push for No. 2 seed in conference tournament
Salt Lake City, UT—The SLCC Baseball team (28-16, 16-12 SWAC) will head to Rangeley, CO this weekend for a four game series with Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) (2-26, 2-26 SWAC) on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 19-20. First pitch for game one on Friday is slated for 1:00 p.m. and Saturday's first contest will begin at Noon.
The pair of doubleheaders will be the middle four contests of a 12 game road trip to end the regular season for SLCC. The Bruins are currently in third place in the SWAC, one game behind Western Nevada College (WNC) (32-16, 17-11 SWAC) with eight games remaining on the schedule.
Bruin Baseball is averaging 6.4 runs scored per game and is allowing an average of 4.8 runs to the opposition. SLCC leads the season series with CNCC 4-0.
The SLCC pitching staff has a team earned run average (ERA) of 4.13, led by sophomore right hander
Skyler Janisse (Maidstone, ONT) with a 2.10 ERA.
Janisse has a win-loss record of 4-0 in 12 total appearances and has recorded three saves so far this season.
The Bruins have a SWAC-best team batting average of .313, led by sophomore catcher
Bo Fisher (American Fork, UT) with a .369 average (minimum 50 at-bats).
Fisher has 45 hits on the season with a team high 15 doubles and is tied for the team lead with 27 runs batted in (RBIs). Sophomore infielder
Sam Goold (St. George, UT) leads the Bruins with five home runs and is tied for the team lead with 27 RBIs.
SLCC Softball gets set for final home games of 2013 regular season, Swing for Life event
Bruins in second place in close SWAC race
Salt Lake City, UT—The
No. 2-ranked SLCC Softball team (37-8, 31-5 SWAC) will play its final four home games of the 2013 regular season this Friday and Saturday, Apr. 19-20 against Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent College of Southern Nevada (CSN) (24-22, 17-18 SWAC). Friday's game one will get underway at 1:00 p.m. and Saturday's opening contest is scheduled for a Noon first pitch.
Saturday's games take place on the annual '
Swing for Life' Day for SLCC Softball, as the Bruins will be wearing pink and teaming up with the Swing for Life Foundation to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Saturday is also Alumni Day and Sophomore Day at Bruin Field.
The Bruins are in second place in the conference with eight games remaining and trail rival
No. 6-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (38-8, 32-4 SWAC) by a single game in the race for the SWAC regular season championship. CSI owns the tiebreaker over SLCC by virtue of a 3-1 season series lead, with the conference winner earning hosting rights for the Region 18 Softball Championships on May 8-11.
