SLCC Softball to play first home games of 2013 this weekend

Salt Lake City, UT—The No. 1-ranked SLCC Softball team (21-4, 15-1 SWAC) will play its first home games of the 2013 season this weekend at Bruin Field. SLCC will play a pair of doubleheaders against Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Snow College (8-8, 1-6 SWAC) on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 15-16. First pitch for game one on Friday is set for 1:00 p.m. and Saturday's first game gets underway at Noon.

The Bruins have won 19 of the last 20 contests and have outscored the opposition 187-64. SLCC averages 7.5 runs scored per game and allows an average of 2.5 runs per game to its opponents.

SLCC has a combined team batting average of .363, led by sophomore outfielder Malia Campos (Murray, UT) with a .507 average at the plate. Campos has 36 hits on the season, with a double, three triples and one home run.
Sophomore infielder Maddy Woodard (Murray, UT) leads the Bruins with 33 RBIs on the year and has 10 extra base hits to her credit. Sophomore infielder Whitney Holt (Tooele, UT) leads SLCC with five home runs thus far.

The Bruin pitching staff has a combined earned run average (ERA) of 2.03, led by sophomore pitcher MaCauley Flint (Roy, UT) with an ERA of 0.74. Flint has struck out 118 opposing batters in 11 starts with a win-loss record of 10-2.

 
SLCC Baseball preps for this week's slate of six conference games

Salt Lake City, UT—The SLCC Baseball team (13-9, 7-5 SWAC) will play six Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) games this week. The Bruins will head to Price, UT for a doubleheader matchup with USU-Eastern (4-6) on Tuesday, Mar. 12. First pitch for game one is slated for Noon.

SLCC will then return home for a pair of doubleheaders against Colorado Northwestern CC (CNCC) (1-6, 1-6 SWAC) on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 15-16 at Cate Field. First pitch for game one on Friday is set for 1:00 p.m., and Saturday's games get underway at Noon.

The Bruins are averaging 5.7 runs scored per game and are allowing an average of 5.5 runs per contest to the opposition.

SLCC has a combined team batting average of .279, led by freshman pitcher/outfielder Connor Williams (South Jordan, UT) with a .386 average. Williams has 17 hits with six RBIs. Sophomore utility player Palmer Page (Saratoga Springs, UT) and sophomore infielder Sam Goold (St. George, UT) are tied for the team lead with 16 RBIs and the two are tied with a team-best three home runs.

The Bruin pitching staff has a combined earned run average (ERA) of 4.37, with freshman pitcher Brady Corless (Spanish Fork, UT) owning the best win-loss record on the staff at 3-0. Corless has an ERA of 2.89 in five starts.
