The nationally-ranked SLCC Men's and Women's Basketball teams will begin their postseason pushes this week at the Region 18 Basketball Championships in Coeur d'Alene, ID. The tournament will be hosted by North Idaho College (NIC) this season, with the competition running from Feb. 28-Mar. 2.

The No. 6-ranked SLCC Men's team (26-3, 14-1 SWAC) won the outright Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season championship and in doing so claimed the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Region 18 Tournament. The Bruin Men seek their first Region 18 Championship since 2009 when they won the NJCAA National Championship.

The conference regular season crown is the first for the Bruins since before the 2000-2001. Salt Lake's only loss in conference play came at the hands of tournament host NIC (26-4, 13-2 SWAC) in a road battle and SLCC has won seven consecutive contests heading into the postseason.

On the other side of the bracket, the No. 16-ranked SLCC Women's team (18-10, 9-6 SWAC) finished in third place in the SWAC, earning a No. 3 seed in Region 18 play. CSI earned the No. 1 seed by defeating North Idaho twice this season. The SLCC Women seek their first Region 18 Championship since the 2006-2007 season when the team finished ranked No. 7 in the nation.

The No. 1-ranked SLCC Softball team (18-3, 12-0 SWAC) will make the trek to Henderson, NV this week for a pair of doubleheaders against Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe College of Southern Nevada (CSN) (10-9, 4-4 SWAC). The Bruins will face the Coyotes on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 1-2. First pitch for game one on Friday is set for 1 p.m. and Saturday's games get underway at Noon.

The Bruins had a pair of doubleheaders against SWAC rival No. 13-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (17-5, 11-1 SWAC) canceled last weekend due to unplayable conditions at both campuses. The games will not be made up or played at a later date.

The top-ranked Bruins have won 16 straight games and are the only unbeaten team in SWAC play. SLCC swept two doubleheaders against Western Nevada College (3-18, 0-8 SWAC) in its last matchups, outscoring the Wildcats 36-10 across the four ballgames.

The Bruins won the day one games 4-2 (9 innings) and 15-3 (6 innings) and picked up 7-3 and 10-2 victories over the Wildcats on day two. Grilli reached base on a single and stole second to get into scoring position for the winning tally.
