Bruin Basketball teams set for Valentine's Day showdown with rival CSI TONIGHT at Bruin Arena

No. 19 SLCC Women and No. 12 SLCC Men to do battle with Southern Idaho tonight at 5:30 and 7:35 p.m.

The nationally ranked SLCC Men's and Women's Basketball teams will take on fierce rival College of Southern Idaho (CSI) in a pair of Valentine's Day showdowns at Bruin Arena this evening.

No. 19 SLCC WBB vs. No. 14 CSI WBB - 5:30 p.m., Bruin Arena
The No. 19-ranked SLCC Women's team (15-9, 7-5 SWAC) will square off with the No. 14-ranked Lady Eagles of CSI (17-10, 10-2 SWAC) at 5:30 p.m. in the third matchup between the teams so far this season. CSI leads the season series 2-0, having beaten the Bruins 55-39 on Jan. 5 at Bruin Arena and winning a tense matchup in Twin Falls on Jan. 24 by a final score of 69-68 in overtime.

SLCC has won two games in a row and CSI is on an eight-game win streak. The Eagles are currently in a tie for first place in the SWAC, with Salt Lake hoping to play the role of spoiler for CSI's hopes of winning the regular season SWAC championship. Tonight's game marks the next-to-last home game for the Bruins, who will say goodbye to their sophomores this coming Saturday when the team takes on No. 4-ranked North Idaho College (25-2, 10-2 SWAC).

The Bruin Women are averaging 61.0 points per game, led by sophomore center Rachel Morris (Mesquite, NV) with 12.7 points per outing. Second on the team in scoring is freshman guard Natalie Parsons (Bountiful, UT) with 8.9 points per game, followed by sophomore guard Katie Richens (Roosevelt, UT) with 8.7 per contest. SLCC is allowing just 54.7 points per game to the opposition so far this season.

The Lady Eagles are led by the SWAC's leading scorer, freshman guard Patrice Toston (Seattle, WA) with 14.1 points per game. Second on the team in scoring is post player Sarah Viehweg (Inkom, ID) with 7.6 points per outing.

The No. 12-ranked SLCC Men's team (22-3, 10-1 SWAC) will do battle with rival CSI (19-8, 6-6 SWAC) tonight at 7:35 p.m. at Bruin Arena. Tonight's game marks the third matchup between the two squads so far this season, with Salt Lake leading the season series 2-0. The Bruins handled the Eagles 89-73 on Jan. 5 at Bruin Arena and picked up a 76-67 road win over CSI on Jan. 24 in Twin Falls, ID.

Both teams in tonight's matchup have won three straight games. The Bruins are currently in a dogfight for the SWAC regular season crown, trailing rival No. 10-ranked North Idaho College (24-3, 11-1 SWAC) by a single game heading into this week. Tonight's game marks the next-to-last home game for the Bruins this year, with the team saying goodbye to five sophomores in Saturday's matchup with NIC on Sophomore Day at Bruin Arena.

The Bruins are averaging 85.4 points scored per game, led by the SWAC's leading scorer, sophomore guard Skyler Halford (Orem, UT) with 17.6 points per outing. Second on the team in scoring is freshman forward Sai Tummala (Phoenix, AZ) with 14.3 points per contest, followed by sophomore forward JuWan Buchanan (Seattle, WA) with 11.5 points per game. The Bruins are allowing just 62.8 points per game to the opposition so far this season.

The Eagles are scoring an average of 82.2 points per game, led by Jaysean Paige with 13.5 points per night. Second on the team in scoring is Billy Reader with 11.6 per outing.
