No. 1 SLCC Softball gets set for first home games, No. 17 Bruin Baseball preps for doubleheader matchup with Yavapai, Coyote Slug-out

No. 1 SLCC Softball to play first home games of season this weekend

Salt Lake City, UT—The No. 1-ranked SLCC Softball team (14-3, 8-0 SWAC) will play a pair of Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) doubleheaders this week and will take the diamond at home for the first time this season.

The Bruins, winners of 12 straight games, will square off with Western Nevada College (WNC) (0-4, 0-2 SWAC) on Friday, Feb. 15 at Bruin Softball Field with first pitch of game one slated for 1 p.m. Game two will get underway 30 minutes following the first contest.

The Bruins will play a second doubleheader against WNC on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Bruin Softball Field with first pitch of game one slated for Noon. The Bruins won seven of eight contests with WNC last season.

SLCC is averaging 9.2 runs scored per game and is allowing just 3.2 runs per game to the opposition so far this season. Bruin sophomore pitcher MaCauley Flint (Roy, UT) has recorded 82 strikeouts in 11 total appearances and has an earned runs average of 0.75 with a win-loss record of 7-1.

Sophomore outfielder Malia Campos (Murray, UT) leads the team with a .542 batting average and an on-base percentage of .609. Sophomore catcher Lyndsey Healey (Spanish Fork, UT) leads the Bruins with 24 runs batted in, including six doubles, one triple and four home runs.
 

No. 17 SLCC Baseball heads to Nevada for matchups with Yavapai, Coyote Slugout

Salt Lake City, UT—The No. 17-ranked SLCC Baseball team (3-1) will head back to Nevada this week for a slate of five games, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 13 with a doubleheader against Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ. First pitch for game one is set for Noon, with the second game taking place 30 minutes following the first contest.

The Bruins will then head to Henderson, NV to take part in the Coyote Slug-out, hosted by the College of Southern Nevada. The Bruins will open the tournament with a pair of games on Friday, Feb. 15, first taking on Okanagan College (Canada) at 11 a.m. and then facing Prairie Baseball Academy (Canada) at 2:30 p.m.

SLCC will take the diamond against Prairie Academy again on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. and will close the Coyote Slug-out with a second matchup against Okanagan on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m.

SLCC Baseball is averaging five runs scored per ballgame and is allowing 5.3 runs per game to the opposition so far this season. SLCC sophomore utility player Palmer Page (Saratoga Springs, UT) has two home runs on the year, both coming in a single game against Arizona Western on Jan. 27.

Page is batting .333 through four games, with a slugging percentage of .833 and has accounted for six RBIs.
