Bruins rally from halftime deficit to close SLCC Tournament with win over Trappers

SALT LAKE CITY, UT—The SLCC Women's Basketball team (5-0) picked up its fifth straight win to open the season with a 68-63 victory over Northwest College (NWC) (4-1) on Saturday at the Lifetime Activities Center.

The Bruins trailed the Trappers by seven points at the halftime break but used three consecutive three point baskets in the late stages of the contest as part of a 46 point second half effort to edge NWC.

Salt Lake forced 19 Trapper turnovers and the Bruins went 22-for-34 from the free throw line. Despite being out-rebounded 39-36 and giving up seven three point shots to the Trappers, SLCC completed a sweep of its weekend slate of three games at the annual SLCC Tournament.

Stats vs. NWC: Bruin sophomore guard Natalie Parsons (Bountiful, UT) led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting. The Woods Cross High School graduate went 6-for-6 at the free throw line with three rebounds in the game.

Sophomore guard Mercedes Riggs (Lindon, UT) added 18 points to go with a game-high five assists and four rebounds and freshman guard Cassidy Fraughton (American Fork, UT) turned in a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Next up for Head Coach Betsy Specketer and the Bruins is a road trip to Rock Springs, WY for a non-conference matchup with Region IX opponent Western Wyoming Community College on Friday, Nov. 18 with tipoff slated for 5:30 p.m.
