Box Score No. 17 SLCC Baseball defeats Cochise on day two of Coyote Border Battle

Henderson, NV—The
No. 17-ranked SLCC Baseball team (1-1) picked up its first victory of the season by defeating Cochise College (1-1) 9-3 on Saturday at the Coyote Border Battle. In wet conditions, the game was pushed back an hour for first pitch. SLCC fell behind 3-0 but took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to get a game in the win column. SLCC scored four runs in the fifth inning, three in the sixth and two in the seventh to clinch the neutral-site win.
Sophomore pitcher
Michael Springer (West Jordan, UT) picked up the win with five innings pitched.
Springer struck out five Cochise batters and allowed no earned runs. Freshman pitcher
Wyle Cunningham (Alberta, CAN) pitched three innings of relief with three strikeouts and no earned runs allowed.
Bruin sophomore outfielder
Steven Adam (Ontario, CAN) was 2-for-2 with the bat with a double and two runs scored in the winning effort. Freshman outfielder
Zach Watts (West Jordan, UT) knocked in the go-ahead run with a two-RBI triple in the fifth inning and was 1-for-3 at the plate.

DG Nelson is a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 27 in Henderson, NV. The Bruins will face Glendale CC at 10 a.m. and will take on Arizona Western at 2 p.m. to close out the Coyote Border Battle.
