The No. 11-ranked Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team (18-2, 6-0 SWAC) will put its 14-game win streak on the line against a pair of Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) rivals this week in Idaho.

The Bruins are still the only team in the SWAC without a conference loss after taking down in-state rival Snow College (15-5, 3-3 SWAC) in dramatic fashion 67-66 on Saturday in Ephraim, UT. In a back-and-forth contest, SLCC trailed the Badgers 66-65 with less than 10 seconds remaining.

Bruin sophomore forward JuWan Buchanan (Seattle, WA) drilled a game-winning 16-foot jump shot with 7.1 seconds left on the clock and SLCC held on for its eighth straight win away from home including neutral site contests. The victory boosted the Bruins from No. 15 to their current No. 11 ranking in the NJCAA Top 25 Polls, released Wednesday.

SLCC sophomore guard Skyler Halford (Orem, UT) led the Bruins with 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the winning effort over the Badgers. Freshman forward Sai Tummala (Phoenix, AZ – pictured above) tallied 12 points to go with six rebounds and Buchanan finished with 14 points including the game-winning basket.

Next up for Head Coach Todd Phillips and the Bruins is a pair of road tests in Idaho to finish up the team's five-game road swing. The Bruins will square off with fierce rival College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (15-6, 3-4 SWAC) on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Twin Falls, ID. SLCC dismantled the Eagles 89-73 at Bruin Arena back on Jan. 5 with Halford scoring 25 points and the team shooting 18-for-22 from the free throw line. The Bruins were 54.1% shooting overall in the year's first matchup with CSI.

The Bruins will then travel to Coeur d'Alene, ID to face off with No. 13-ranked North Idaho College (NIC) (19-3, 6-1 SWAC) on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 6:00 p.m. MST. The Bruins are the only team in the SWAC to have beaten NIC this season, having rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to defeat the Cardinals 75-74 at Bruin Arena on Jan. 3.

The Bruins are scoring 86.6 points per game, led by Halford with an average of 18.9 points per outing. Second on the team in scoring is Tummala with 14.3 points per contest, followed by Buchanan with 12.0 points per outing. SLCC is allowing just 60.6 points per game to the opposition on average.

The No. 16-ranked SLCC Women's Basketball team (13-6, 4-2 SWAC) will face a pair of tough Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchups on the road this week in Idaho. The Bruins have won three straight games, all coming away from home, and hope to make a clean sweep of a five-game road stint with wins this weekend.

The SLCC Women enter this week on the heels of a convincing 55-43 victory in Ephraim, UT over in-state rival Snow College (8-12, 2-4 SWAC) on Saturday. The Bruins started strong and led 27-24 at the half, and outscored the Badgers 12-5 to start the second frame--eventually leading by as many as 15 points. SLCC shot 37% from the field and made 17 of 26 attempts from the foul line to seal its sixth straight win in true road contests.

Bruin sophomore center Rachel Morris (Mesquite, NV) scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the winning effort. Freshman forward Bella Swan (Farmington, UT) turned in a solid performance with 12 points and seven boards, and freshman guard Mercedes Riggs (Lindon, UT) added nine points in a strong effort.

The Bruins out-rebounded the Badgers 32-26 and extracted revenge for a 67-64 loss to Snow College in the SWAC opener at Bruin Arena on Dec. 15. SLCC held Snow to just 19 second half points in the win.

Next up for Head Coach Betsy Specketer and the Bruins is a set of two road games in Idaho, in perhaps the two toughest buildings in the conference to pick up road wins. SLCC will square off with rival College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (11-10, 5-2 SWAC) on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Twin Falls, ID. SLCC was beaten by CSI 54-39 on Jan. 5 at Bruin Arena.
