The Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team (9-2) eased past Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC) (2-3) 91-73 on Monday night at Bruin Arena. The Bruins opened the game on a 14-0 run and owned a 42-31 heading into the halftime break.

Despite several valiant comeback efforts from the TVCC Chukars (chuck-ers), the Bruin big men were too much to handle down the stretch as SLCC extended the lead to double digits in the final minutes. The Bruins out-rebounded TVCC 50-42 and sank 21 of 28 free throws to seal their fifth straight victory.

SLCC redshirt freshman forward Sai Tummala (Phoenix, AZ – pictured above) turned in a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and sophomore guard Skyler Halford (Orem, UT) scorched the nets, leading all scorers with 19 points and completing a double-double with 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Tyrell Corbin (Salt Lake City, UT) tallied 12 points to go with four assists in the Salt Lake victory.

Bruin freshman guard Gary Payton II (Las Vegas, NV) made several spectacular plays on both ends of the floor, including a monster put-back slam dunk and several steals on defense to stifle the Chukars' comeback effort.

Next up for Head Coach Todd Phillips and the Bruins is the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opener against No. 20-ranked Snow College on Saturday, Dec. 15. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. at Bruin Arena. SLCC beat Snow in all three matchups between the schools last season.

The Bruins defeated Snow 75-72 in Ephraim on Jan. 21, won a squeaker 98-96 at Bruin Arena on Feb. 11 and hung on for a huge 89-83 road win on March 3 to close out the conference year. The Snow College Badgers return several key players from last year's team that went 23-9, and are currently on an eight-game win streak.

Snow College moved up four spots in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Top 25 polls, from the No. 24 spot to their current No. 20 ranking in the latest polls released Wednesday morning.

The SLCC vs. Snow game marks the opening of the broadcast season for SLCCTV's coverage of Bruin Men's Basketball. No. 20 Bruin Women fall to Idaho Elite, prep for SWAC opener vs. Snow College

The No. 20-ranked SLCC Women's Basketball team (7-3) lost in heartbreaking fashion 64-62 to East Idaho Elite Team 2 on Monday night at Bruin Arena. The Bruins held a 28-26 lead at the half and shot 48% from the field in the losing effort.

The Bruins held a lead as large as seven points in the second half, and tied the game at 62-62 on a Mercedes Riggs (Lindon, UT) free throw with 9.5 seconds remaining. A buzzer-beating basket made by Idaho Elite's Lori Castagnetto handed the Bruins their third loss of the season. Castagnetto was the recipient of a fortunate bounce in the game's waning moments, as her last second attempt sat on the rim for an agonizing pair of seconds before dropping through the net as the final horn sounded.

Bruin sophomore guard Katie Richens (Roosevelt, UT – pictured above) led all scorers with 20 points and turned in a double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds. Richens also had five assists in the losing effort. Sophomore center Rachel Morris (Mesquite, NV) scored 15 points to go with her five rebounds on the night.

Next up for Head Coach Betsy Specketer and the Bruins is the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opener against defending Region 18 Champion Snow College (4-6). The Bruins will battle the Snow College Badgers at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Bruin Arena. Snow College has lost three consecutive games.
