No. 5 Salt Lake softball falls to Trinidad State in World Series

Bruins season comes to abrupt end

Box Score

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Wednesday, May 22, 2024)— Sixth-seeded Salt Lake had its season end thanks to a late rally from the Trinidad State Trojans.

SLCC took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning, but Trinidad State punched across two runs to grab the lead.

The Bruins threatened with the bases loaded in the final half inning but came up empty in the 2-1 loss.

Recap
Kendyl Purdy led off the game with a single, advancing to third on a throwing error. With two down later in the inning, starting pitcher Shelbee Jones roped a single to left that scored Purdy and gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead.

Jones was on point in the circle, stranding a baserunner in each of the first three innings. The former Bingham Miner struck out five of six batters in the middle innings, appearing to get stronger as the game rolled along.

Trinidad State stranded two runs in the fifth before breaking through in the sixth.

Back-to-back doubles to open the inning tied the score at one. One batter later, a single to left gave Trinidad State its first lead of the game, 2-1 heading into the seventh.

The Bruins loaded the bases with a walk and two infield singles but couldn't scratch across a run in the 2-1 loss.
