Baseball: After a few weeks of weather-shortened games, the Bruins will return to Cate Field for a four-game series that carries numerous storylines.
SLCC will host longtime rival Southern Nevada in a four-game series on Wednesday and Thursday, starting the league season with one of the Scenic West preseason favorites. The Bruins enter the series with a mark of 6-4, sitting on a four-game winning streak.
Salt Lake is 2-0 at Cate Field so far this year, having earned a pair of wins over Utah State's club program.
Men's Basketball: After earning the Region 18 championship on Saturday, the No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team spent Sunday recuperating.
The Bruins were back to work Monday, preparing for the upcoming NJCAA West District Championship Game, which will be hosted by Cochise. The winner will receive an automatic berth into the NJCAA tournament.
Salt Lake coach
Kyle Taylor said his team is ready to return to competition.
"We'll do a lot of skill development this week; make sure guys prioritize academics and get lots of rest," he stated. "We want to be well-rested heading into Saturday's District Championship game down in Arizona. If you focus on your ranking or what people are saying about you, you've lost focus and it won't be long before you'll lose a basketball game and your season will be over."
Taylor said Cochise will provide a stiff test.
"Cochise is talented and will present different challenges," he said. "(They are) well-coached, experienced, talented, and will be hard to beat on their home floor."
Softball: The No. 17 Bruins will open Scenic West play at home this week, playing their home openers against USU Eastern on Wednesday and Thursday.
After an up-and-down, 5-5 start to the season, the Bruins will look to return to their winning ways and open defense of their 2021 Scenic West title. Salt Lake will return to face off against an in-state rival in USU Eastern, who is 3-7 overall.
SLCC coach
Cyndee Bennett said the time off prior to conference play has been a benefit for her team.
"This has been a very long break, as we have been off for four weeks," he said. "The team has been very focused. They got a little taste of SLCC and they are ready for more."
In preparation for the upcoming USU Eastern series, Bennett said she is looking forward to opening Scenic West play with a friendly rival.
"We are looking forward to playing USU Eastern," she said. "We have a fun rivalry with them because their head and assistant coach played for us. We know their team very well and they probably know us better. It will be a good series to start our conference."
The series will be played at Norma Carr Field.
