Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 28, 2022) – A semifinal game in one of the NJCAA's preeminent preseason tournaments featured plenty of fireworks for the No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team Wednesday.
Facing off against No. 14 South Plains in the semifinals of the 'Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout' in Arizona, the Bruins posted a tight 77-76 win to advance into Thursday's tournament final. The victory also lifts SLCC to 13-1 overall.
Salt Lake jumped out to an impressive halftime lead, holding a 48-36 advantage while going 15-of-17 at the free throw line. The tables turned though in the second half as the Bruins shot just 30 percent from the field (9-of-30), allowing South Plains to come back and hold a late lead to make for a thrilling finish.
Alejandro Vasquez again led SLCC in points, finishing with 23 points after going 9-of-9 from the foul line.
Jaquan Scott posted 14 points, while
Andre Mulibea finished with 12 points.
The Bruins will face off against the winner of a game between San Bernardino Valley and Seward County in Thursday's final.
