No. 4 SLCC Softball opens season at CSN tourney

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 28, 2022) – Opening Day came and went for the No. 4 Salt Lake Community College Softball team, but not without considerable fireworks along the way.

Playing in a preseason tournament hosted by the College of Southern Nevada, the Bruins rolled to a 1-2 record in day one of the season, playing a rare tripleheader. SLCC earned a 13-7 win over Trinidad State to start the day, followed by a tough 9-8 loss to No. 5 Yavapai College. Salt Lake closed the marathon day with an 11-4 loss against Central Arizona.

The Bruins will continue play in Las Vegas Saturday, playing a doubleheader in the CSN tournament against South Mountain and Arizona Western.

Salt Lake 13, Trinidad State 7: The Bruins overcame an early deficit to pick up a win in the 2022 season opener.

Tied at 6-6 after three inning, the Bruins went on a 7-0 scoring run on the next three innings to roll to the strong victory. Avery Takahashi hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to jumpstart a key rally, with the Bruins scoring another pair of runs on an Allie Laub two-run double.

Bailey Marvin led Salt Lake at the plate, going 3-of-4 with a trio of RBI's. Laub also had 3 RBI's.

Yavapai 9, Salt Lake 8: A fast start for SLCC did not hold up in the loss to No. 5 Yavapai.

The Bruins posted four runs in the second inning to take an early 4-2 lead, but then allowed seven runs over the next two innings to fall behind. Allie Laub hit a solo home run in the second inning as a SLCC highlight.

Lyndsey Madrigal was 3-of-3 at the plate, posting a trio of RBI's.

Central Arizona 11, Salt Lake 4: A late rally couldn't help the No. 5 Bruins in the day's nightcap.

Central Arizona scored seven unanswered runs midway through the game to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Bailey Marvin got the Bruins on the board in the first inning, hitting an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. From there, a series of Central Arizona home runs doomed Salt Lake.

Maclee McPhie went 2-of-3 at the plate for Salt Lake.
