Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 26, 2021) - Hopes were high for the No. 1 Salt Lake Community College softball team after a strong win to open the 2021 NJCAA National Tournament on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, SLCC's high hopes fell flat as the Bruins were swept in a pair of games to fall out of the tournament. SLCC dropped a 6-2 decision to San Jacinto-South to begin the day, then fell 4-1 to Yavapai College to be eliminated from the tournament. Salt Lake ended the season with a record of 52-4 overall.
San Jacinto-South 6, Salt Lake 2: A slow start offensively, combined with surrendering early runs, contributed to SLCC dropping the opening game of the day.
San Jacinto-South scored three runs to open the game, with SLCC scoring no runs after loading the bases in the third inning. The Bruins finally scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning, with
Brylee Marziale-Hill hitting an RBI triple to help cut the deficit to 4-2. Unfortunately, San Jacinto-South closed the game strong.
Marziale-Hill went 2-of-3 in the game to lead SLCC, while
Mercedes Call was 2-of-4.
Yavapai 4, Salt Lake 1: A tough outing offensively ended the season for Salt Lake.
SLCC posted just a single run in the game, coming in the second inning on a
Hola Nakayama sacrifice-fly RBI.
Mackenzy Richins was 2-of-3 in the game to lead Salt Lake.Â
