Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 12, 2021) - The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College softball team survived a tough matchup in Wednesday's Region 18 tournament semifinals, claiming a victory to advance to Thursday's Region 18 finals.
SLCC earned an 11-10 win over Southern Nevada in the Region 18 semifinals at Lady Coyote Softball Field, staying in the winners' bracket of the tournament and advancing to the Region 18 championship game. The Bruins are now 50-2 overall.
Tied at 10-10 in the bottom of the sixth inning, SLCC's
Hola Nakayama hit a solo home run to give the Bruins the lead for good. Southern Nevada jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the game, with Salt Lake taking an 8-3 lead in the third inning courtesy of a
Brylee Marziale-Hill three-run home run in the second inning;Â
Kaytlyn Cripps also contributed a home run and a double in the run.Â
CSN recovered to score five runs in the fourth inning, taking a 10-8 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Salt Lake recovered by scoring two runs on a
Mailee Maka home run in the bottom of the fifth, setting up the go-ahead at-bat from Nakayama in the sixth inning.
Marziale-Hill went 3-of-4 at the plate, finishing with a trio of RBI's, with
Mercedes Call also going 3-of-4. Cripps was 2-of-4 in the game.
Nya Laing earned the pitching victory for Salt Lake.
The Bruins will play for the Region 18 tournament title on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The winner of the tournament advances to the NJCAA national tourney.Â
