Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 11, 2021) - The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College softball team opened the 2021 Region 18 championships at the College of Southern Nevada in style on Tuesday, earning a win over an in-state rival to advance to the winners' bracket of the tournament.
SLCC posted an 11-7 win over Snow College, overcoming an early deficit to advance to Wednesday's Region 18 semifinals. Snow opened up an early 6-0 lead on the Bruins after two innings, with SLCC going on an 11-1 scoring run from there.
Snow posted four runs in the first inning, followed up by scoring another two runs in the second inning. SLCC responded with a vengeance in the bottom of the second inning, with
Mercedes Call hitting a two-run single to key the inning. Salt Lake took the lead for good by scoring a pair of runs in the fourth inning, thanks to a
Mackenzy Richins RBI single, and also added a run in the fifth inning on a
Brylee Marziale-Hill RBI single.Â
Rylee Harris-Thorpe put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, hitting a two-run home run that sealed the win.Â
Call and
Savannah Heaton both went 3-of-4 in the win, with Harris-Thorpe posting a trio of RBI's.
Alyssa Millemon earned the pitching victory in relief.
Salt Lake will play Southern Nevada at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in a winners' bracket semifinal, with the winner advancing to Thursday's Region 18 championship game.Â
