Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 20, 2021) - The No. 6 Salt Lake Community College softball team swept through yet another tournament doubleheader Saturday, downing a pair of Scenic West Athletic Conference foes.
SLCC earned an 8-5 win over host Southern Nevada and a 9-4 win over the College of Southern Idaho, staying undefeated in the tournament. The wins boost Salt Lake to a perfect 8-0 in the preseason.
The Bruins will close the CSN tourney on Sunday, facing off against Colorado Northwestern Community College and the College of Southern Nevada.
Salt Lake 8, Southern Nevada 5: SLCC utilized a strong late-game performance to earn a comeback win over the host Lady Coyotes.
Southern Nevada posted four runs in the first inning, taking a strong early lead. The Bruins would start chipping away at the CSN lead in the fourth inning, trailing 5-0, scoring a pair of unearned runs on a throwing error. Trailing 5-2 entering the seventh inning, SLCCÂ utilized a pair of two-RBI doubles to take the lead as
Kaytlyn Cripps and
Brylee Marziale-Hill both doubled to help SLCC earn the clutch victory.
Cripps and Marziale-Hill both led the team with a pair of RBI's each.
Bailey Frischknecht earned the pitching victory, throwing 5.2 innings of one-run ball while striking out five CSN batters.
Salt Lake 9, Southern Idaho 4: A fast start and consistently strong hitting helped the Bruins earn a strong victory.
Rylee Harris-Thorpe hit an RBI single in the first inning to help the Bruins jump out to a 2-1 inning, following up with a two-run home run in the second inning to boost SLCC's advantage to 6-1. Savannah Montoya hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to boost Salt Lake.
Rylie Bennett finished 3-of-4 at the plate for SLCC, while Harris-Thorpe had a team-high four RBI's.
Nya Laing earned the victory, pitching a complete game and striking out seven CSI batters.Â
