Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 17, 2021) – Road trips can notoriously cause teams to be a bit sluggish.
The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team felt the effects of a long road trip to Texas Wednesday, narrowly trailing at halftime against Midland College in the opening game of a three-day tournament. SLCC dropped the sluggish play quickly after halftime, showcasing offensive efficiency in a 93-66 win. The Bruins are now 6-0 with the victory.
It was Midland who took the halftime lead, leading 38-37 at intermission. The Bruins came out with a vengeance in the second half, outscoring Midland, 56-28, and shooting a sizzling 64.5 percent (20-of-31) from the floor. Additionally, Salt Lake shot a strong 58.2 percent from the floor in the game.
"We had another great second half today," said Bruins coach
Kyle Taylor. "We picked up our defensive intensity, trapped more aggressively, and did a phenomenal job rotating behind our pressure."
Chase Adams led the Bruins with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while
Doctor Bradley scored 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Both
Jackson Last and
Quincy McGriff contributed 13 points apiece for Salt Lake.
"
Chase Adams led the way with a really great floor game," said Taylor. "They let (Adams) get to the rim and he finished well.
Doctor Bradley was great again off the bench, contributing 17 points and 5 steals, while
Quincy McGriff and
Jackson Last made some big three-point shots that helped us run away in the second half."
Salt Lake will play nationally-ranked New Mexico Junior College on Thursday. The tournament will conclude Friday with a matchup against host Odessa College.
