Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 15, 2021) – The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Soccer program opened its NJCAA title defense in strong fashion, earning a multi-goal win over Harford Community College in its NJCAA opener.
SLCC earned a 3-0 win over Harford in the opening match of Pool Play in the NJCAA Division-I Men's Soccer National Championships, which are being played in Tyler, Texas. With the win, Salt Lake is now 18-0 overall and well on its way to qualifying for the NJCAA semifinals, which will be played Friday.
The Bruins posted all three of their goals in the first half, with
Kai Phillips scoring the first goal on an
Azriel Johnson assist.
Omar Gomez scored a goal later in the half on a penalty kick, while
Santiago Delfino scored a goal on a
Damian Aguello assist.
"Today was a solid start for our guys in this tournament," said Bruins coach
Mark Davis. "Our energy and our communication was good from the get-go, and now we're in a good position moving into the final match of pool play Wednesday. I'm encouraged by our start."
Salt Lake will take a day off, returning to play No. 8 Daytona State in the Pool Play finale on Wednesday. The winner of SLCC's pool will advance to play in the NJCAA semifinals, which begin Friday.
