No. 5 SLCC Men's Basketball powers by No. 17 Western Wyoming on road

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 30, 2021) - A road swing did little to stall the momentum of the No. 5 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team as the Bruins finished a two-game set at Western Wyoming with a victory over the nationally-ranked host team.

SLCC earned a 90-73 win over No. 17 Western Wyoming, turning a halftime deficit into a double-digit victory. The Bruins are now 4-0 on the season, with all four games being double-digit victories.

In spite of the impressive final margin, Salt Lake was slow to start and trailed 35-32 at halftime of the game. However, SLCC locked in offensively in the second half, shooting 58.6 percent (17-of-29) and outscoring Western Wyoming, 58-38. The Bruins also shot well from distance, finishing with a three-point shooting percentage of 48.1 percent (13-of-27).

SLCC coach Kyle Taylor said the game showcased why both teams are nationally-ranked.

"This was a gritty win for our team," he said. "It was a back-and-forth game, and Western Wyoming is terrific and relentless and we tried to match their intensity. In the second half, we rebounded better and made some shots. I'm very proud of the guys and their team effort and win."

The Bruins were keyed by Max Watson and James Lee, who combined for 52 points. Watson posted a game-high 27 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including a 7-of-9 performance from three-point range. Lee scored 25 points and finished with 6 rebounds. Sam Hofman was the other double-digit scorer with 10 points.

"Max Watson and James Lee were explosive offensively," Taylor said. "Everyone who played contributed on defense, but those two led us on the offensive end with big shots by Max and big plays by James."

Salt Lake will play at home on Sunday against California Christian College.
