Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 28, 2021) - The 2021 season is officially underway for the No. 16 Salt Lake Community College softball team.
The Bruins opened the year with a 10-2 win over Arizona Western in a tournament hosted by the College of Southern Nevada, utilizing a six-run third inning to power to the win. SLCC's offense carried the day in the victory, finishing with ten hits.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning, SLCC picked up a run to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Bruins scored six runs in the third inning, with
Kaytlyn Cripps hitting a home run to power the team. Leading 7-2 in the fifth inning, Salt Lake's
Allie Laub hit a home run to close out the game on a run-rule victory.
Savanna Montoya and
Hola Nakayama both finished 2-of-3 at the plate for SLCC, with Nakayama finishing with a trio of RBI's.
Nya Laing earned the pitching victory in the circle, allowing two runs and five hits.
Salt Lake will play a single game on Friday, facing off against Snow College at 2:00 p.m. PST. All games will be hosted at Lady Coyote Softball Field.Â
