Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 6, 2020) – The home-opening series for the No. 7 Salt Lake Community College softball team ended in a split Friday.

Playing their first games of the 2020 season at Norma Carr Field, the Bruins earned a doubleheader split with the College of Southern Idaho, picking up wins of 9-4Â and an 11-4 loss in game two. The day's results sit Salt Lake's overall record to 11-5 and 5-1 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

SLCC and Southern Idaho will begin a Saturday doubleheader at 12:00 p.m.

Salt Lake 9, Southern Idaho 4: A pair of big innings lifted the Bruins to a lead they never relinquished.
After Southern Idaho posted three runs in the top of the second inning, Salt Lake responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, adding four more runs in the third inning to take a 9-3 lead after three innings. SLCC hit a number of home runs in the win, with
Savanna Montoya and
Rylee Harris both hitting long balls.
The Bruins had four extra-base hits, with Montoya leading the way at the plate with a 1-of-2 performance; she also scored a pair of runs with three RBI's.
Mackenzy Richins went 2-of-4 at the plate, with
Mia Cullimore going 2-of-3.Â

Southern Idaho 11, Salt Lake 4: An early Bruins lead evaporated thanks to a strong CSI finish.
Salt Lake took an early 1-0 lead and battled to a 4-4 tie entering the sixth inning, scoring three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. However, Southern Idaho scored seven runs in the sixth inning to take a commanding lead.
Montoya led the Bruins, going 3-of-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI's.Â
