No. 7 SLCC Softball readies for home-opening series

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 5, 2020) - The No. 7 Salt Lake Community College softball team has won all over the country this preseason but there is something to be said for the comforts of home, no matter the time of year.

The Bruins will get to experience home for the first time this season during this week's games, hosting the College of Southern Idaho in a four-game series at Norma Carr Field. The battle of the two longtime Scenic West Athletic Conference foes will surely have much on the line, especially with both programs entering with identical 4-0 league records.

Coming off a four-game sweep of Colorado Northwestern, SLCC coach Cyndee Bennett said she is encouraged by where her team sits in the standings.

"We played very well last weekend," she said. "We need to stay consistent and continue to play at the top of our game."

The Bruins will need to play at the top of their game to fare well against Southern Idaho. The Golden Eagles had a four-game sweep over Southern Nevada last weekend, earning run-rule victories in several of the games. Southern Idaho posted 52 runs in four games last weekend, earning lots of acclaim in the offense-centered performance.

Bennett said SLCC will have to focus on fundamentals in order to fare well against an experienced Southern Idaho team.

"We are playing a very strong CSI team," she said. "They are very good hitters. We need to hit with them and our pitchers need to be dialed in."

Salt Lake and Southern Idaho will begin their four-game series on Friday at 1:00 p.m. The two teams will also play a doubleheader on Saturday, with all four games being played at Norma Carr Field.
