Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 8, 2020) - The No. 5 Salt Lake Community College softball program finished an up-and-down 'Dothan Invitational' on Saturday with a split.
SLCC downed Central Alabama to start the day's action, 8-2, before falling in the nightcap to Gulf Coast State College, 7-6. The losses drop Salt Lake to 6-4 to finish the preseason.
The Bruins will be off until Feb. 28, when the program begins Scenic West Athletic Conference play at Colorado Northwestern. SLCC will play its home opener on March 6 against Southern Idaho.
Salt Lake 8, Central Alabama 2: The Bruins took an early lead, never surrendering it in the morning victory.
SLCC posted three runs in the first inning, taking a 5-1 lead after the second inning. Salt Lake added to the score consistently, posting two runs in the seventh inning to earn the win. The Bruins finished with 12 hits as a team.
Savanna Montoya and
Brylee Marziale both went 2-of-3, with Marziale finishing with four RBI's. She also earned the pitching win, allowing two hits and two runs in four innings.
Gulf Coast 7, Salt Lake 6: A big inning early in the game helped Gulf Coast move on to a win, in spite of a late Salt Lake comeback.
Trailing 7-2 entering the sixth inning, a
Brylee Marziale home run lifted the Bruins back to within shouting distance of Gulf Coast. Unfortunately, the Bruins were unable to get over the hump late.
Mallory Barber went 2-of-4 with an RBI, while Marziale finished with a trio of RBI's.
