Box Score 3 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 7, 2020) – The No. 5 Salt Lake Community College softball team suffered through a weather day in the first day of the 'Dothan Invitational', sitting out the day while strong rain fell in Alabama.

Salt Lake made up its game with No. 1 Chipola, falling 2-1, also earning a 5-4 win over Florida SouthWestern College and a 5-0 loss to Central Florida. The day's results set Salt Lake's overall record at 5-3.

The Bruins will play one more day of games in Alabama, finishing with Central Alabama Community College and Gulf Coast State College.

Chipola 2, Salt Lake 1: A close back-and-forth contest between national powers ended in a tough Salt Lake loss.

Salt Lake took an early 1-0 lead, scoring a run in the first inning on a
Brylee Marziale RBI single. Chipola tied the score in the second inning, eventually taking the lead in the seventh inning on a solo Chipola home run.Â

Salt Lake 5, Florida SouthWestern 4: SLCC held off a late rally to earn the close victory.

SLCC held an early 3-0 lead, eventually stretching the lead to 5-2. The Bruins scored in the first inning on a
Savanna Montoya RBI single that scored
Mercedes Call. Salt Lake added more runs in the third inning, with a
Kamora Masina triple setting the table for an eventual 3-0 lead.

Masina also had an RBI single in the fourth inning. FSWC tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning, sending the game to extras. The Bruins were able to turn a double play in the eighth inning to earn the close win.Â
