TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 27, 2020) – The No. 9 Salt Lake Community College softball team took its traditional break in mid February after playing a series of games against nationally-ranked opponents; now the Bruins are prepped for league play.
Â
Salt Lake will open Scenic West play this weekend on the road, traveling to face off against Colorado Northwestern Community College. After two weeks of strong competition against nationally-competitive programs, the Bruins finished the preseason at 6-4.
Â
SLCC coach
Cyndee Bennett said the layoff over the past several weeks has helped her team regroup after an aggressive opening to the 2020 season.
Â
"We have been able to shore up our inconsistencies and are looking forward to conference," she said.
Â
Colorado Northwestern will provide a good challenge for Salt Lake entering the tournament. The Spartans have played just six games, going 1-5, and have also been on a break since early February.Â
Â
Bennett said her team is looking forward to the challenge of CNCC.
Â
"CNCC's record looks good for their preseason," she said. "So, we are very focused on our next four games against them. We do not take any games for granted and this will be a good start for our freshman to see what four games in a weekend are all about."
Â
This weekend's series will feature doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday. Friday's doubleheaders will be played at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., with games on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Salt Lake will open the season at Norma Carr Field on March 6.Â
