Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 20, 2020) - The No. 8 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team has faced many challenges in the 2019-20 season but one of its toughest came on the road Thursday.
The Bruins, who were a perfect 10-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play, entered a road game with in-state rival Snow College in hopes of earning a victory to keep the perfect league season alive. In the course of an up-and-down evening, SLCC walked away from Snow with a 77-76 victory to move to 11-0 in SWAC play. Salt Lake's overall record is now 25-4.
Bruins coach
Kyle Taylor said the performance was another example of his team's steadfast-nature under pressure.
"We got lucky tonight," he said. "Snow was terrific, they had a great crowd and played great; I give my hats off to them. It was a battle all night and a great back-and-forth game. I'm really proud of our team's toughness."
Both SLCC and Snow went back-and-forth throughout the game, with the contest featuring 9 lead changes and 8 ties. Salt Lake held a 50-44 halftime lead, shooting 51.1 percent from the field. The tables turned in the second-half with Snow holding the Bruins to 37.9 percent shooting, including a 1-of-11 performance from three-point range. Trailing 76-75 with just 13 seconds remaining, the Bruins scored on a layup with seconds remaining to earn the win.
Justice Hill scored 12 points in the win, while
Jay Allen-Tovar posted 11 points.
Asa McCord and
Ed Chang both scored 10 points, with McCord also posting 8 rebounds.
Salt Lake will conclude the regular season with a game at USU Eastern on Saturday. SLCC is the top seed in next weekend's Region 18 tournament.Â
