No. 5 Bruins go 2-1 in opening day action in Southern Nevada

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 31, 2020) – The No. 5 Salt Lake Community College softball team opened the 2020 season with a pair of sterling performances in the Southern Nevada desert.
 
Playing in a tourney hosted by the College of Southern Nevada, the Bruins earned a 6-4 win over longtime power Eastern Arizona in game one of a doubleheader, followed up by a 11-1 win in game two over Trinidad State. Salt Lake fell 11-10 to Yavapai College in the nightcap. SLCC will start the season at 2-1 with the wins.
 
The Bruins will play a pair of games on Saturday, facing off against Arizona Western at 8:00 a.m. and Central Arizona at 1:00 p.m.
 
Salt Lake 6, Eastern Arizona 4: Early extra-base hits led to the Bruins picking up a strong win in their season opener.
 
A Mallory Barber double, followed up by a Brylee Marziale home run, led to a 3-0 lead for Salt Lake after the first inning. SLCC scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 5-1 but Eastern Arizona came back to score a trio of runs to cut the deficit to 5-4. Rylee Harris hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to reestablish a strong Salt Lake lead. 
 
Marziale hit a three-run home run, along with earning the win in the pitching circle. 
 
Salt Lake 11, Trinidad State 1: A strong pitching-and-hitting performance by Mia Cullimore led to the Bruins earning their second win on the day.
 
After a scoreless first inning, Cullimore had an RBI single to get the Bruins on the board, along with Savanna Montoya adding another RBI single that eventually saw Salt Lake's lead boosted to 4-0. 
 
Mackenzy Richins added to the advantage with a two-run home run later in the second inning, with Cullimore hitting a solo shot in the third inning to up the lead to 8-1. Rylee Harris hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
 
Cullimore earned the pitching win, with Brittany Terry also pitching in the win.
 
Yavapai 11, Salt Lake 10: In a back-and-forth game, the Bruins came up just shy in the bid for a perfect opening day.
 
Yavapai jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the fourth inning, a point from which SLCC chipped back from.  Rylee Harris hit her third home run of the day, casting a three-run home run that got the Bruins back in the ball game. Mia Cullimore hit a solo home run later in the game to get Salt Lake within a run. Unfortunately, the Bruins stranded two runners on the bases late.
