TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 2, 2020) – The No. 23 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team collectively turns the page this week, going to a new decade and a new part of their season.
The Bruins will begin Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Saturday in the Lifetime Activities Center, hoping to reclaim the top spot in the SWAC after a year off in 2018-19. The first preseason of the
Kyle Taylor era went well for Salt Lake, posting a 14-4 record with several wins over nationally respected opponents and finishing in the Top-25 at the end of the preseason.
With league play opening Saturday, Bruins coach
Kyle Taylor said he likes the position his team is currently in.
"Our team is excited to begin Scenic West play," he said. "These games mean more and the intensity of each possession will increase. We've got a week to prepare for Colorado Northwestern.
"Overall, I'm pleased with our performance in non-conference play. Would I have liked to win one or two more games? Absolutely, but I think we've learned and grown as a team and hopefully are ready for the challenges ahead with playing four good teams three times each."
Salt Lake will face a Colorado Northwestern team that is still searching for its identity entering the first weekend of January, coming off a tough weekend in a Pima Community College tournament in Arizona. The Spartans are 2-16 and found their last victory in a November 29 win over Dakota College at Bottineau.
SLCC will host CNCC at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Lifetime Activities Center. The Bruins will host Southern Idaho on Thursday, Jan. 9 before traveling to play at Snow College on Jan. 11.
