Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 19, 2019) - The 2019 version of the Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team has already faced many challenges but facing a nationally-ranked conference foe on the road was high on the pecking order.
While the challenge was palpable, the No. 4 Bruins found their way to a 2-1 road win over No. 18 Snow College on Thursday in Ephraim, earning another impressive win and adding to their advantage in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings. With the win, the Bruins' overall record improves to 5-0-1 and 3-0 in the Scenic West.
A pair of Salt Lake goals made the difference in the win, with
Daniel Mulholland getting the Bruins on the board in the first half with an assist from
Omar Gomez. Knotted up in a 1-1 tie in the second half,
Ryen Jiba scored the game winner in a match that could play a significant role in SLCC's conference season and claims for national prominence.
Salt Lake coach
Mark Davis said the road win over Snow was important for his team.
"Today's win was no easy contest," he said. "Snow is always a tough opponent, especially in Ephraim. For the first 20 minutes, Snow was putting the pressure on us and scored a goal on a set piece. That built a fire beneath our team and our boys came together and responded.
"Was it the most pretty win? No, it wasn't, but good teams find a way to win and we did."
With the win in tow, the Bruins will prepare for a match with the College of Southern Nevada on Saturday in Henderson, Nev. Southern Nevada finished a Thursday match with Truckee Meadows Community College in a 0-0 tie.Â
