Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 3, 2019) - How "sweep" it was for the No. 7 Salt Lake Community College softball team on Friday at Norma Carr Field.
The Bruins, playing their final regular-season series before hosting next week's Region 18 championships, opened with a doubleheader sweep of the College of Southern Nevada on Friday, earning an 8-0Â victory in game one and a 13-0 win in game two. The wins boost Salt Lake's overall record to 42-6 and 34-4 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
SLCC and CSN will play another doubleheader on Saturday that is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start. The Bruins will honor their graduating sophomores before the first game of the day. Live stats for the day's games will be available on www.slccbruins.com.
Salt Lake 8, Southern Nevada 0: A consistent attack helped the Bruins to the run-rule victory in game one.
A
Kim Taylor RBI double jump-started the scoring in the first game, giving SLCC a 1-0 lead in the second inning. That score started five consecutive innings of scoring for the Bruins.
Mallory Barber hit an RBI single in the third inning,
Dayna Hokanson had a solo home run in the fourth inning, and Taylor had a three-run home run in the fifth inning. Barber's RBI double in the sixth inning proved to be the walk-off hit.
Taylor finished 2-of-3 at the plate, finishing with a handful of RBI's. Barber went 2-of-4 with a pair of RBI's.
Tarni Stepto earned the pitching victory for Salt Lake, throwing six scoreless innings and allowing just one hit and one walk. Stepto was a buzzsaw throughout the game, striking out ten CSN batters.
Salt Lake 13, Southern Nevada 0: Offense ruled the game for SLCC as a fast start pushed the Bruins to a doubleheader sweep.
Tarni Stepto and
Mallory Barber each hit solo home runs in the first inning, lifting Salt Lake to an early 2-0 lead. The Bruins added to the advantage in the second inning as the team scored six runs, started by a Barber two-run home run and a two-run single from
Arienn Ackerman.
Mackenzy Richins added to the advantage in the third inning with a two-run single, followed up by
Rylee Harris's RBI single.
Mia Cullimore's two-run home run in the fourth inning gave SLCC enough runs to finish the win on run-rule midway through the fifth inning.Â
Salt Lake had four different players with multi-hit games, including Richins's 3-for-3 performance with a pair of RBI's.
Brook Carter and
Mia Cullimore combined in the circle for Salt Lake, allowing just four CSN hits in five innings.Â
