Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 5, 2019) - The No. 12 Salt Lake Community College softball program took to the road yet again this weekend, traveling to play a Scenic West road series at Colorado Northwestern. The Bruins entered with a mindset of dominance and their performance Friday didn't deter from that mindset.
SLCC swept through the Spartans in a doubleheader on Friday, earning victories of 10-0 and 17-1. The wins boosted Salt Lake's overall record to 26-6 and a Scenic West record of 18-4. The Bruins are also undefeated against Colorado Northwestern this season with a 6-0 record.
Salt Lake and Colorado Northwestern will play another doubleheader on Saturday to finish the series. The day's games will start at 12:00 p.m.
Salt Lake 10, Colorado Northwestern 0: The Bruins jumped on CNCC early and never let up in a run-rule victory.
Power at the plate made the difference for Salt Lake as
Whitnee Alexander hit two home runs to lead the team. Alexander hit her first home run in the fourth inning to give the Bruins a 5-0 lead, then hit a demonstrative three-run shot in the fifth inning.
Kim Taylor open the scoring for Salt Lake with a solo home run in the second inning.
SLCC's power at the plate wasn't the only power the Bruins showcased in a big victory.
Tarni Stepto started in the circle for Salt Lake and controlled the game with her pitching, shutting out CNCC while striking out 10 Spartans.Â
Salt Lake 17, Colorado Northwestern 1: Another offensive romp ended in a Bruins extra-inning victory.
SLCC continued its offensive power from game one, earning multiple extra-base hits at timely moments. Some of those timely moments included
Dayna Hokanson's two-run home run in the second inning that helped Salt Lake build a 7-0 lead at inning's end. SLCC pitcher
Mia Cullimore helped her cause in the circle in the third inning as she hit a grand-slam home run to give the Bruins a double-digit lead, hitting a ball over left-field to give her team a 13-0 lead.
Tarni Stepto opened the game's scoring with an RBI single in the first inning.Â
Cullimore was equally brilliant in the circle for Salt Lake, allowing no runs while striking out a number of Spartans.
