TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 18, 2019) - The No. 8 Salt Lake Community College softball team has gone on a nice winning streak in Scenic West Athletic Conference play, winning 11 consecutive games to move to a season-best 24-4 in league play.
With just three series remaining in the regular season, the goal of the program now is to continue that momentum as the Bruins try to reclaim the top spot in the Scenic West at season's end. The winning streak will be put to the test this weekend against a regional foe as SLCC travels to play in-state rival USU Eastern in Price.
Salt Lake coach
Cyndee Bennett said this weekend's games will be another step in the program's goal of maintaining the top spot in the Scenic West.
"Every weekend there is competition," she said. "We take every team in our conference very seriously. Our goal this weekend is to work on our consistency."
Besides the team success of last weekend's sweep, the Bruins had individual honors too as
Mallory Barber was honored as the Scenic West's Player-of-the-Week. Barber went 7-of-9 at the plate in the Southern Idaho series, hitting .778 with 5 RBI's. She also hit 5 home runs and 3 doubles during the weekend, scoring 7 runs.Â
While the Bruins will close the regular season with two weeks at home, this trip represents the last regular-season road trip for a program that has gone 13-6 on the road and 7-0 in neutral venues. SLCCÂ went 4-0 against USU Eastern in their first matchup this season, earning run-rule victories in three of the games. The Bruins outscored the Eagles by a combined 37-9 advantage in the series.
USU Eastern is just 10-13 in league play and 12-23 overall. The Eagles did sweep Colorado Northwestern last weekend, capturing four victories at home. With the season winding down in the Scenic West, Salt Lake has a six-game lead on Southern Idaho with only three weekends remaining.
The four-game series between Salt Lake and USU Eastern this weekend will commence on Friday with a doubleheader that is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m.Â
