No. 10 SLCC Softball moving into critical weekend with Southern Idaho

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 10, 2019) - Throughout a regular season in collegiate athletics, there are generally a few particular moments the season comes down to.

This upcoming weekend represents one of those moments for the No. 10 Salt Lake Community College softball team as the Bruins host the College of Southern Idaho in a series that will likely help decide the race for the Scenic West Athletic Conference. SLCC and CSI have similar records (Salt Lake is 18-4 in league, CSI is 18-6 in league) and this weekend's series will likely play a big part in separating the two teams. Southern Idaho is receiving votes in the national polls.

Bruins coach Cyndee Bennett said her team is excited for the competitive opportunity this weekend against Southern Idaho at home after being on the road for three consecutive weekends.

"We have a big weekend coming up," she said. "Southern Idaho is a very talented team. Our goal is to stay focused on ourselves and play our game."

Salt Lake is coming off a four-game sweep of Colorado Northwestern on the road last weekend, a sweep that saw the Bruins outscore the Spartans 68-1. SLCC's final victory was a 33-0 run-rule contest. There are a multitude of reasons behind Salt Lake's continued dominance but hitting continues to be one of the tops as SLCC is hitting a Scenic West-high .401 and has a league-best 2.99 ERA for its pitching staff.

While SLCC has been among the Scenic West's best all season, Southern Idaho has also proven itself to be no slouch. The Golden Eagles are 27-13 overall and are on a seven-game winning streak in the league. SLCC and CSI split their previous series in Twin Falls in March.

This weekend's four-game series will be played at Norma Carr Field in Taylorsville on Saturday and Sunday. Live stats for the series will be available on www.slccbruins.com.
