TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 6, 2019) - The No. 4 Salt Lake Community College softball program is pushing forward in many different ways, whether it be in the win-loss record or their skill development.
Regardless of how they're moving on, the Bruins are simultaneously moving up in both the standings of the Scenic West Athletic Conference and in the eyes of national voters. SLCC moved to No. 4 in the latest round of NJCAA polls, with the team's 4-0 performance to open league play impressing voters while also improving their overall record to 12-2. The NJCAA rankings are the program's highest since they were ranked in the top-five last season at the beginning of the year.Â
As Salt Lake prepares for a matchup against regional rival Southern Idaho this weekend, the team is excited to maintain their present course on the season's journey, according to head coach Cyndee Bennett.
"We started off strong on our first weekend out in miserable early spring weather," she said. "This coming weekend will be a test for us against a ranked CSI team.  We look forward to the test and seeing how we can continue to grow."
Through the start of the season, Salt Lake is one of the league's most powerful programs in several categories, whether it be record (league-best), pitching (league-best 2.48 ERA), or fielding (.949 average). SLCC pitcher
Kierstyn Ketchell also continues to be rated as the Scenic West's top pitching, posting a league-best 6-0 record that features 3 complete games and an ERA of 0.87.
Southern Idaho went 3-1 in its league-opening weekend against Southern Nevada, part of a 10-8 overall start to the season. The Golden Eagles feature the league's best offense with a .379 batting average, boasting 17 home runs along the way. CSI also has an ERA of 4.77 as a pitching staff.
The four-game series between Salt Lake and Southern Idaho will be played in doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday in Twin Falls. Friday's doubleheader will start at 1:00 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.Â
