No. 9 SLCC Softball hopes to continue momentum into Southern Nevada series

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 27, 2019) - The No. 9 Salt Lake Community College softball team is riding a wave of momentum across the Scenic West Athletic Conference and the Bruins are hoping the wave doesn't crest in the desert.

SLCC is traveling to Las Vegas to take on the College of Southern Nevada this weekend, a series that will likely go a long way in helping Salt Lake maintain its top spot in the Scenic West. With only six series remaining in the regular season, Salt Lake is understanding the need for strong play as the first half of league play finishes.

Bruins coach Cyndee Bennett said her team understands the importance of playing well in the Nevada desert this weekend.

"We are excited to be heading down to the warm weather this weekend," she said. "We have been trusting the process all season and are learning a lot about ourselves. We get to learn some more in these upcoming games."

Momentum is definitely on the side of the Bruins entering the CSN series. Salt Lake is 21-5 overall and 11-3 in Scenic West play, and is coming off its fourth consecutive week of having a player earn individual honors from the Scenic West (freshman Mallory Barber is the most recent). Additionally, the Bruins have the league's top offense (.397 hitting average) and pitching staff (3.12 ERA).

While Salt Lake is flying high, the Southern Nevada Coyotes have had a variety of bumps in their collective road this season. CSN is just 5-7 in Scenic West play and 7-16 overall, with a record that features series splits with USU Eastern and Colorado Northwestern. The Coyotes' pitching staff has an ERA of 7.80.

This weekend's series at Southern Nevada is the second of three-consecutive weekends on the road for Salt Lake. The Bruins will travel to play at Colorado Northwestern before returning home to host Southern Idaho at Norma Carr Field on April 12.

SLCC's series at Southern Nevada will begin with a doubleheader on Friday, followed by an additional doubleheader on Saturday. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. PST start.
