No. 9 SLCC Softball sweeps Saturday doubleheader at Snow

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 23, 2019) - Saturday is proving to be the 'get-back-on-track day' for the No. 9 Salt Lake Community College softball team.

Each time the Bruins have lost a game in a Scenic West Athletic Conference series on a Friday, they've responded with a strong Saturday performance. This weekend was yet another example of that as SLCC overcame a doubleheader split on Friday to sweep Saturday's action at Snow College, earning 7-5 and 14-3 victories to finish the series against the Badgers. The wins move Salt Lake's overall record to 21-5 and 13-3 in the Scenic West.

Salt Lake will be on the road yet again next weekend as they travel to Las Vegas to play the College of Southern Nevada in a four-game series. Both Friday and Saturday will feature doubleheaders.

Salt Lake 7, Snow 5: A fast start allowed the Bruins to build a comfortable lead and then hang on in the day's first game.

SLCC led 6-0 after the first inning thanks to a three-run home run by Taylor Sorenson. The Bruins also scored runs on a RBI single by Whitnee Alexander and a Paige Peterson RBI sacrifice-fly.

From there, Snow would slowly creep back into the game, cutting the deficit to 7-5 entering the seventh inning. However, Salt Lake pitcher Brook Carter shut the door on the Badgers by striking out two batters.

Salt Lake 14, Snow 3: The Bruins turned on the offense late in game two, powering to the victory.

Salt Lake held a 5-3 lead entering the fifth inning before the Bruins opened up the flood gates, scoring 9 runs in the inning to power to the win. In an inning that was started with a Mackenzy Richins walk, the Bruins took advantage by combining contact with power and had a Dayna Hokanson two-run double punctuate the impressive win.

Brook Carter earned the pitching victory, surrendering three runs while striking out one. Mallory Barber, Tarni Stepto and Hokanson finished going 3-of-4 at the plate, with Stepto posting four RBI's. Salt Lake had 14 hits in the win.
