Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 22, 2019) - The No. 9 Salt Lake Community College softball program split a doubleheader with in-state rival Snow College Friday.
Playing at Snow, the Bruins fell 6-5 in game one before responding with a 9-6 victory in game two. The split sets Salt Lake's overall record at 19-5 overall and 11-3 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Salt Lake will play Snow in another doubleheader in Ephraim on Saturday. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
Snow 6, Salt Lake 5: A late scoring run by the Snow College Badgers stole a win from Salt Lake in game one of the series.
SLCC held a 5-1 lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning, cruising after posting runs steadily throughout the game. Snow scored three runs in the sixth inning to further cut into the deficit but Salt Lake still held a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning with the league's best pitching staff.Â
In spite of the tough ending, Salt Lake still had strong hitting throughout the game.
Mallory Barber finished 3-of-4 at the plate with 2 RBI's.
Paige Reynolds went 2-of-3 at the plate while
Tarni Stepto finished going 2-of-4.Â
Salt Lake 9, Snow 6: The Bruins posted back-to-back four-run innings to power to the game over Snow.
It was Snow who scored first by posting a single run in the second before Salt Lake responded with its first of two-consecutive innings of scoring four-or-more runs. The Badgers would cut the lead to 8-6 entering the seventh inning but SLCC added an insurance run to earn the victory.
Barber went 3-of-4 for the second game and both
Tarni Stepto and
Rylee Harris went 2-of-3 at the plate to lead Salt Lake offensively.
Kierstyn Ketchell pitched Salt Lake to the victory, throwing five innings while allowing six runs.
Brook Carter, the reigning Scenic West Pitcher-of-the-Week, pitched a perfect final two innings to earn the save.Â
