TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 20, 2019) - The No. 9 Salt Lake Community College softball team has taken a few blows during the battles of the 2019 season and the Bruins just keep on giving more back.
Salt Lake has started off with a red-hot 18-4 record, including a 10-2 start in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Bruins are currently on a six-game winning streak and have boosted their national ranking after a superb 4-0 record in last week's series sweep of in-state rival USU Eastern at Norma Carr Field.
SLCC faces the challenge this week of rolling into a road series with a longtime in-state rival, with Snow College providing the program with a strong challenge this upcoming weekend. The matchup is a critical one for the Bruins as they attempt to maintain momentum at the top of the Scenic West, according to SLCC coach Cyndee Bennett.
"We will be traveling to play one of our in-state rivals," she said. "I am excited to see how we come out and play on the road. Our pitchers are doing a great job keeping batters off balance."
The Bruins currently sit at the top of the Scenic West with their 10-2 league record and Southern Idaho sits in second-place behind them with a record of 8-4. The Snow College Badgers sit in third with a record of 4-3, with the four wins coming in a series sweep of USU Eastern and a single win over Southern Idaho.Â
Salt Lake leads the league with a .397 batting average and an ERA of 2.78. Conversely, Snow's team batting average is .321 with an ERA of 6.94. SLCC also has the best fielding percentage at .954. Besides the team success, the Bruins continued their string of individual success as Salt Lake pushed its record to three-straight weeks of earning Scenic West weekly honors.
Brook Carter won this week's Pitcher-of-the-Week honors with her success.Â
This week's four-game series against Snow College will commence on Friday with a doubleheader that begins at 1:00 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m. Salt Lake's next home series is scheduled to begin on April 12 when the Bruins host the College of Southern Idaho.Â
