Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 16, 2019) - The No. 10 Salt Lake Community College softball program continued its strong run in Scenic West Athletic Conference play, powering to a doubleheader sweep of USU Eastern at Norma Carr Field on Saturday.
SLCC fought through adversity at several points, powering to wins of 7-3 and 8-0. Power at the plate proved to be one of Salt Lake's keys as the Bruins utilized multiple home runs to earn victories in both games. The wins lift SLCC's overall record to 18-4 overall and 10-2 in Scenic West play.
Salt Lake will travel next weekend to face in-state rival Snow College in a four-game series in Ephraim. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
Salt Lake 7, USU Eastern 3: Numerous home runs lifted SLCC to the game one victory.
Kim Taylor hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to lift Salt Lake to 6-3 lead, establishing an insurmountable margin for the Bruins. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning,
Arienn Ackerman hit a two-RBI single to give SLCC a 2-1 lead. While USU Eastern would later tie the game at 2-2, back-to-back extra-base hits by the Bruins in the fourth inning lifted Salt Lake to a 5-2 lead.
Brook Carter finished out the game for Salt Lake, ending the game on a strikeout that helped SLCC to its victory.
Salt Lake 8, USU Eastern 0: A
Mallory Barber walk-off home run sent the Bruins to a run-rule victory in game two.
Leading 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Barber launched a three-run home run to send Salt Lake to the run-rule victory.
Savanna Montoya and
Tarni Stepto both hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth run.
With the Bruins blasting at the plate,
Brook Carter dealt at the plate in the start and earned the win. Stepto finished the game in the circle.
