TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 13, 2019) - The No. 10 Salt Lake Community College softball program is powering through the season, preparing for their third weekend of Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
The Bruins are hosting in-state rival USU Eastern this weekend in a four-game series at Norma Carr Field, hoping to increase their stature in both the league and nationally. Individually, Salt Lake swept the Scenic West weekly awards this week after splitting a series with Southern Nevada, powering to a 14-4 start overall and a 6-2 start in league play.
USU Eastern enters Friday's doubleheader with a 2-13 overall record and an 0-3 mark in league play after getting swept by Snow College in the first weekend of league play. The Eagles are hitting just .263 and their pitchers are surrendering an ERA of 5.01. In comparison, Salt Lake's pitching staff has an ERA of 2.48 to lead the Scenic West and a batting average of .342.
Currently in the Scenic West standings, Salt Lake is leading the pack, with Snow College's 3-0 start right behind them. The Badgers had their weekend series with Southern Nevada canceled last weekend, with USU Eastern also facing the same fate against Colorado Northwestern.
Friday's doubleheader against USU Eastern will start at 1:00 p.m. at Norma Carr Field, with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.Â
