Box Score 3 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 8, 2019) - If early-season results mean anything, the No. 14 Salt Lake Community College softball program will once again be a national contender in 2019.
A day after splitting a doubleheader with No. 2 Chipola College, the Bruins earned a 5-1 win over No. 6 Central Florida and a 3-2 victory over Pensacola Community College, also falling 12-4 to No. 3 Florida Southwestern. The day's games give Salt Lake three victories over nationally-ranked opponents already this season, part of an 8-2 start to the season.
Salt Lake will now be off for several weeks, resuming play on March 1 when Scenic West Athletic Conference play begins. The Bruins will host Colorado Northwestern Community College in a four-game series to open league play.

After surrendering an early run, the Bruins scored a run to tie the game in the second inning on a Savannah Montoya RBI single. Salt Lake broke the tie in the sixth inning, with the Bruins posting four runs in the frame.
Whitnee Alexander's RBI single to left-field proved to be the go-ahead hit, with

Kierstyn Ketchell earned the victory in the circle, moving to 5-0 on the season.
Salt Lake 3, Pensacola 2: A pitching-and-defense-fueled stalemate ended with a narrow Bruins victory.
