TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 21, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team has had a strong start to the 2019-20 season but has had a few moments of inconsistency.
The Bruins have opened with a 5-2 overall record, with games against some of the top teams in the region and nation. After several weeks of competition and tournaments, SLCC is taking a lighter week with a one-off home game against Eastern Wyoming College at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. SLCC will host its annual Thanksgiving tourney over the holiday weekend next week.
SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor said his team is tracking well in its progress for the rest of the season.
"I was not pleased with how we started last week but was really pleased with how we ended," he said. "In November, it's all about improving and growing as a team. Each week, we need to get a little bit better and show a little more progress in an area."
Eastern Wyoming has opened the season at 5-2, thanks to wins over Northern New Mexico and several JV teams from larger institutions. The team is averaging 85 points-per-game in scoring and is shooting 50.4 percent from the field.
With Eastern Wyoming's offensive success in mind, Taylor said the Lancers will provide a good test for his team.Â
"With it being only a single-game week, it's a big game for us," he said. "Eastern Wyoming is good and well-coached; we need to prepare well and give ourselves the best chance to win."
Salt Lake's game against Eastern Wyoming is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center on Thursday.Â
