Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 1, 2019) - The No. 13 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team opened the 2019 season with a strong road victory.
The Bruins picked up an 80-57 win over Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona, moving to 1-0 on the season. The two teams were tied at halftime before SLCCÂ went on to a strong second half.Â
SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor said the win was a solid starting point for his team.Â
"I'm proud of our team for going on the road, and after being tied 36-36 at halftime, being able to really pull away in the second half," he said. "Our defensive intensity all night was good, we just didn't rebound the ball in the first half and finish possessions. It is nice to get the first win, but we have to turn the page and get ready for Central Arizona tomorrow.
Tied at 36-36 at halftime, the Bruins scored 44 points in the second half. Salt Lake led by 13 points early, 20-7, before CGCC powered to tie the game at halftime. However, Salt Lake's defense locked down in the second half, allowing just 2 Chandler-Gilbert points in the first 10 minutes of the second half.Â
Justice Hill led Salt Lake with 20 points, while
Adam Hess finished with 18 points.
Spencer Johnson also scored 10 points.
"
Adam Hess really got us going with his three-point shooting; he was lights out to start both the first and second half," Taylor said. "
Justice Hill had a really nice second half offensively, and everyone chipped in with 10 different players scoring. Our depth really took over the game in the second half. We have to keep working and improving for sure but it was a good opening night."
Salt Lake will play Saturday against Central Arizona at 2:00 p.m. The Bruins are scheduled to play their first home game on Nov. 8 at 6:00 p.m. against Casper College.Â
